Here we go. It’s a crazy time of year again for everyone and the to-do list keeps expanding, while the days are getting shorter and more tiresome. I have last-minute gifts to buy, cookies to bake for yet another party, and let’s not even look at the dust layer building over the holiday decorations; just look at the pretty lights. How in the world am I going to get it all done? Oh, and smile, for Pete’s sake, keep on smiling!
Inhale…Hold…Exhale…
Ok, that’s better. Now, let’s be real. It’s not all going to get done perfectly and, some of it doesn’t NEED to even happen. It’s ok. It will be ok. It’s more important to enjoy the time, rather than zoom through it. Yes, be productive and contribute to the festivities, but maybe this year you can give a little more grace to others and yourself if some parts are skipped and if you are less busy and more present. Wouldn’t that be nice? Not just take pictures, but be part of the memories that you try to capture in the pictures? Take another breath.
Have you used your resources, or have you been trying to be a hero and do it all alone? Yeah, I bet there are some things that could be delegated. If you feel good and can do a little more, go for it; but if you aren’t feeling your best, that’s ok, do what you can.
A verse I love for times like this is, Isaiah 41:10- “10 fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Each day brings its own anxieties and worries, so focus on just today. Pray, meditate, or sing songs to bring your spirit at peace and joy for the season. Take one step at a time to cross off that list and be mindful not to add to it. Manage yourself wisely with the time you’ve got. We’ve only got 24 hours in a day, so be realistic about what you load into that time.
This week, start with a mental reset and do what you can. It will all come together if it’s meant to. Be present and in the moment because the moments will keep passing you by while you keep busy. I encourage you to center yourself in peace, and then go do great things.
